As we brave the cold, wet weather in Tockenham, it is good to celebrate how well our 81st Tockenham Village Fair went this year. We had great weather, record attendance from 600 visitors, fabulous stalls, activities and entertainment and we donated an impressive £3,000 each to the Village Hall and our St Giles Church. Our nominated charity- Brighter Futures’ - received £600 from the fair, £776 from the very successful Sponsored Walk organised by Bill Moore and £1,643 from the impressive Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle ride by our own Tom Gillingham and his friend Robert Miles.
The fair was full of traditional stalls and games, homemade refreshments, our dog show, Children’s Fancy Dress and tallest sunflower competitions, another great attendance from the classic car owners and music from the Royal Wootton Bassett Brass Band. A new layout in 2019 worked especially well creating a nice atmosphere for people to enjoy and relax on the day.
Please mark the date in your diaries - 20th June 2020. The first committee meeting is scheduled for 7.30pm Thursday 16th January 2020 in the village hall and everyone who would like to help the fair preparation are very welcome. Just let Amanda Gillingham know you plan to attend on email: and landline 01793 852061.
We are so thankful for the dedication and commitment of our village community in making the fair such an enjoyable day for everyone. All your help has earned a well-earned reputation for maintaining the traditional village fair format whilst successfully generating funds for our church, community and supported charities. The key to our success is your help so if you can pledge your support with any of the following then 2020 will be off to a great start:
1) The Fair Programme is an important part of the event as it allows local businesses to support us and for us to support them. Our community is as much about our local businesses as it about the families who live within it. If you would like to advertise in the programme, could persuade a local tradesman or know someone else who might want to, please contact Bill Moore.
2) The Raffle is a great part of the fair tradition and Janet Nicholls will be working hard to deliver some great prizes again next year. This is an important part of event marketing and thanks to you all for selling so many tickets to friends and family.
3) Donations for the Raffle, Silent Auction and Vintage Treasures stall are so important to the success of the fair. If you have items you believe would make a good donation then please put them to one side ready for a call to arms early next year. Similarly, if you have access to an activity which we can auction off then we would be delighted to include it.
4) Lastly, we have the roles of manning the stalls, setting up and tearing down and generally sorting the logistics on the day. If you are available that day and happy to help then please text Ali Bennet: 07932 732861 for stall manning and for help with logistics please contact Rosie Carpenter on: 07880 700248 and we will de delighted to add you to the team.
I know it is hard to think about an event planned for mid-2020 during these cold, dark winters nights but if you can register your interest to help us next year it would be very much appreciated. Please save the date and here’s to another great fair in 2020!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all.
