Wiltshire has so much to be proud of and next year, 2012, will be a year of celebration with events celebrating the London Olympics, the Olympic Torch Relay and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
These events provide a real opportunity to bring together our local communities to reinvigorate our local economy, showcase what we have and what we do so well, and to ignite our strong and vibrant community spirit.
The Olympic Torch will be coming to Wiltshire in the lead up to the London Olympic Games. This is a major, once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase what makes Wiltshire so special and unique to the worldwide media who will be covering this once in a lifetime event.
The torch will be appearing locally on the morning of Wednesday 23 May 2012, and will be going through Chippenham, Calne, Marlborough and Royal Wootton Bassett. The exact route and timings will not be released until 3 weeks prior to that, for security reasons.
In addition to the Olympic Torch route, HM The Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and a series of events to mark the occasion are being planned in Wiltshire. There will be a special bank holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the United Kingdom (UK) on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Moreover, the late May bank holiday will be moved to Monday, June 4, 2012, giving people across the UK a four-day long weekend.
More details of ‘2012 A year of celebration in Wiltshire’ will be shared over the coming months via the Community Area Boards.
